Notes:
“Warbling wekas”: the weka is a native New Zealand flightless bird, notorious for their cheeky (and larcenous) behaviour.
“Galavanting geckoes”: New Zealand is home to numerous native gecko species, some of which are very rare and all of which are fully protected by law. One extinct species grew as long as 60 cm (24 inches). Today, one of the many threats to New Zealand geckoes is wildlife smuggling.
