Note:
“Kate Sheppard’s Ribbon!”
Kate Sheppard (aka Katherine Wilson Sheppard, née Malcolm) (10 March 1847 – 13 July 1934) was the most prominent leader of the New Zealand women’s suffrage movement. In 1893, New Zealand became the first country in the world to grant women the vote in national elections. Sheppard also served as the president of the New Zealand Council of Women, editing the council’s newspaper, The White Ribbon, and eloquently promoting full legal and social equality for women. Sheppard’s portrait adorns the New Zealand $10 note.

“All that separates, whether of race, class, creed, or sex, is inhuman, and must be overcome.”
