I’ve just reread the whole story. I’d totally forgotten that Miki used that gun the moment she first appeared. She said that she’d seen far worse than Evan Rice’s harem fantasy, and she used the word “tighter” right back at the beginning as well. Nice bits of foreshadowing.
Of course, since the gun is from the same reality as Miki, it probably won’t harm Akio either.
I keep forgetting what I meant to say. Anyway, I’m thinking of buying the book, but since I live in Norway, about as far from New Zealand as it is at all possible to get, I’ve got to order it from abroad no matter what. Is any edition better in any way?
The only editions I’ve seen so far are the NZ one (paperback), the US one (pretty much identical, but in hardcover), the French one (which is huge and hardcover and utterly gorgeous – albeit in French), and the German one (which is paperback, with a different cover and, obviously, in German). So it depends what your preference is.
Re: the collar. Well spotted! I changed that in the printed edition – she has the collar throughout in the book. There are a few other corrections, too, plus I redid Alice’s conversation with Sam in chapter 3.
(Also: the US one won’t actually be available until January, due to shipping delays. Likewise the UK edition. So the only one in English currently available is the NZ edition from Victoria University Press).

“Say Hello to my little friend”.
Love Satchmo’s expressions!

I thought maybe they’d rip the nasty pages apart.

Whoops! I also noticed: her collar suddenly appeared when they first visited Evan. 🙂

Also also: thanks to both of you for your comments. I’ve been hugely appreciating and enjoying them. 🙂

Thanks. Hardcover sounds good, so I think I’ll wait for the US version then.
